INTERNATIONAL Club held Lunar New Year on January 22. Lunar New Year is the New Year Day according to the old calendar. This event is held various countries such as China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and more.
People pull out their money to buy presents, decoration, material, food, and clothing. Windows and doors will be decorated with red color paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of good fortune, happiness, and wealth. Hao Pei, a Chinese international student, had a very interesting presentation about the origin of the Lunar New Year. After the presentation, we ate dumplings, played Asian games such as Karuta and Fukuwarai, which brought us lots of laugh.

ON THURSDAY, 2rd February, “Setsu-bun,” which is a seasonal Japanese cultural event, was held by International Club. For many centuries, Japanese people have been performing the ritual with the purpose of chasing away evil spirits at the beginning of spring. We learned about setsu-bun, and then we enjoyed throwing beans against some devils while shouting “Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi! (Devils out, happiness in).” After that, we enjoyed eating delicious sushi-roll. We had a great time!

ON FEBRUARY 5th, some IC members joined to ORC Ski & Snowboard Trip. It was the best weather to do skiing & snowboarding on the day. Many people started sliding gentle courses first, falling down many times, but improved their sliding skills at the end. Some people even tried the toughest course, and survived without big injuries. We send our thanks to ORC for collaborating with us!!
