In the brisk snowy weather in Alfred, the Pioneers defeated the Onondaga Ogres 34-20. The startling eighty two yard kickoff return by Alfred State Collin Frazier gave the Pioneers a boost from the opening. Alfred was up 7-0 before thirty seconds had passed.
Eleven minutes later Major Everett made it a 14-0 game. Joey Frendo made it a 21-0 with a 21 yard pass play to Sammy Diaz with fourteen minutes remaining in the second half. He also threw a 19 yard touchdown pass to Colton Caldwell.
Collin Frazier also pulled down two interceptions and had a fifty-five yard interception return for his second score during the third quarter and five tackles. Keegan Phalen succeeded with four kicks that were good. Thomas Daniels led the defense with eleven tackles and a sack. Michael Gibson had six tackles and a fumble recovery. The Pioneers struggled to keep the lead when the Ogres’ Eric Beau-ford and Carl Black scored two touchdowns during the fourth quarter. But Onondaga never caught up to the Pioneers. The Pioneers took the ball away with two interceptions and three fumble recoveries. They continued their winning streak over the Onondaga Ogres. Pioneers are now 4-4.
Coach Mick Caba was in-ducted into the Alfred State Hall of Fame during halftime. Coach Caba has been coaching at Alfred State for thirteen years and he continues to strive for the best record in Alfred State history.
